Understanding Your Pain
Pain is complex and it involves communication between our brain and our body. This communication is done through our nervous system via sensors within nerves from your skin, muscle and bone which pick up signals of any potential “danger” and then these signals are sent to the spinal cord and then to the brain. Various parts of the brain are involved in processing the information and it is influenced in combination with other factors (beliefs, environment, context, emotions and/or previous experiences activates other systems such as the sympathetic nervous system and endocrine system,) and decides from all these inputs how it will react. If the brain determines there is danger, it then decides how best to try to protect our tissues and body. Pain is a response from our brain.
Fortunately it’s also possible to “retrain” the pain system (the brain, spinal cord and nervous system) to become less sensitive and back to a more normal protective setting. This retraining can result in less pain and decrease the impact that chronic pain can have on the other systems and functions of our body (sleep, movement, stress and mood and/or emotions).
We take into consideration everybody's unique individual needs and adjust our treatments accordingly.
Our goal is to empower our clients to take full control of their bodies to feel, move and live better.
